The international community has lauded startup development as a tool for job creation and economic growth – when and how does investment in the startup ecosystem lead to job creation and economic growth? Likewise, international and local investment in job preparedness via relevant and timely education is considered key to ensuring upward mobility and employment access.
What has succeeded? What is still lacking? In this panel, we will explore the science behind the strategies, learn about grassroots & international initiatives that have moved forward over the past 5 years, and what gaps still exist and methods we should employ to ensure growth and resiliency – particularly in this COVID19 moment.
Jennifer Atala's Bio
Jennifer Atala founded Inara Strategies LLC, a global consultancy applying a systems-level approach to develop initiatives that catalyze business and economic growth. She has led country-wide engagements in Palestine, Jordan, and Egypt and curated partnerships for tech startup clients with Fortune 500 & 1000 companies. Prior, Jennifer managed investments in seven industries, led startup growth and economic impact initiatives, and built alliances across development agencies for USAID’s private sector development project in Palestine. In D.C., she led investment process improvement work with the International Finance Corporation’s Financial Institutions Group, winning awards. Also at USAID, she managed a job creation program in Afghanistan and served on the State Department Libya Task Force. In Egypt, she created social impact products for microfinance clients to combat the Avian Flu and social performance management systems for 12 leading Egyptian microfinance institutions. Prior, she led civil rights advocacy efforts for Arab Americans and Palestinian citizens of Israel. Jennifer regularly speaks on Israel-Palestine, economic growth, tech innovation, and career development. She earned her M.A. in International Economics & International Development from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and B.A. from the University of Chicago in International Studies and Near East History. Jennifer is a Board Member of BuildPalestine, a Truman National Security Project Fellow, and 2020 MENA-American National Security & Foreign Policy Leader with New America + the Diversity in National Security Network.
